Allergy tests for allergic reactions to cosmetics, jewelry, clothing, and fragrances may help highlight and differentiate an environmental component and guide further management with your physician and other medical specialists.
This skin reaction occurs when you touch or come into contact with substances you are allergic to. Your skin can be itchy, cracked, red, sore, and even bleed. The substances that cause this reaction can be an ingredient in your makeup, aftershave, shampoo, jewelry, medication, and clothing. You may also find these substances at work in your cleaning supplies, paper and ink, medicines, disinfectants, construction materials, and rubber products.
T.R.U.E. TEST is a reliable, easy-to-use patch test. It is used during our skin allergy treatment service to help our doctors determine whether you are allergic to the substances in the test panels. The test panels contain 36 different substances known to cause allergic contact dermatitis. T.R.U.E. TEST also includes a negative control to help your doctor interpret your skin reactions.
The T.R.U.E. TEST is performed by applying adhesive patch panels to your back, which contain small amounts of different allergens. These patches remain in place for 48 hours, during which you should avoid sweating or getting the area wet. After 48 hours, the patches are removed, and the test site is examined by your doctor after another 48-72 hours to determine if any reactions have occurred.
If you have a positive reaction to any of the substances on the T.R.U.E. TEST, avoid contact with the identified allergen. Your doctor may provide you with a list of alternative safe products. In some cases, additional treatments, such as topical steroids or antihistamines, may be recommended to help manage your symptoms.
Skin allergy testing, including the T.R.U.E. TEST, is generally safe and well-tolerated. However, some individuals may experience mild discomfort, itching, or redness at the test site. In rare cases, a more pronounced allergic reaction can occur. It is important to inform your doctor of any severe reactions or concerns during the testing period.
